چکیده

Abstract Transgenic plants that express double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) targeting vital insect genes have recently emerged as a valuable new tool for pest control. In this study, tobacco were transformed to produce dsRNA Sl 102 gene is involved in the immune response of Spodoptera littoralis larvae, serious lepidopteran several crops. Experimental larvae reared on transgenic lines showed (1) strongly reduced level transcripts, which was positively associated with food consumption; (2) substantial impairment encapsulation mediated by hemocytes; and (3) marked increase susceptibility Xentari™, Bacillus thuringiensis -based insecticide. Importantly, approach may allow reduction doses B. used field applications enhance its killing activity mature larvae. The results obtained thus support use immunosuppressive RNAi performance microbial insecticides

Detoxification System in Spodoptera littoralis against Abamectin

Biochemical and histological analysis were performed on 4 larval instar of the cotton leaf worm Spodoptera littoralis to determine the effect of abamectin (LC50) on the biomarkers acetylcholinesterase (AChE), glutathione S-transferase (GST), α-, βesterase and mixed function oxidase (MFO).Biochemical analysis showed a severe reduction in the enzymatic activities of GST and α-esterase, as compare...

Appetitive and aversive learning in Spodoptera littoralis larvae.

Adult Lepidoptera are capable of associative learning. This helps them to forage flowers or to find suitable oviposition sites. Larval learning has never been seriously considered because they have limited foraging capabilities and usually depend on adults as concerns their food choices. We tested if Spodoptera littoralis larvae can learn to associate an odor with a tastant using a new classica...

Appetitive and Aversive Learning in Spodoptera littoralis Larvae

Page 725 Adult butterflies are capable of associative learning that serves foraging flowers or finding oviposition sites. In experimental paradigms, they learn to extend their proboscis in response to floral orders associated with a sugar reward or to avoid them if paired with bitter substances. Such settings have been used to elucidate the neuronal circuitry and mechanisms underlying the afore...

Synergistic activity of a Bacillus thuringiensis delta-endotoxin and a bacterial endochitinase against Spodoptera littoralis larvae.

In an attempt to increase the insecticidal effect of the delta-endotoxin crystal protein CryIC on the relatively Cry-insensitive larvae of Spodoptera littoralis, a combination of CryIC and endochitinase was used. CryIC comprising the first 756 amino acids from Bacillus thuringiensis K26-21 and endochitinase ChiAII encoded by Serratia marcescens were separately produced in Escherichia coli carry...

Optimization of recombinant bacteria expressing dsRNA to enhance insecticidal activity against a lepidopteran insect, Spodoptera exigua

Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) has been applied to control insect pests due to its induction of RNA interference (RNAi) of a specific target gene expression. However, developing dsRNA-based insecticidal agent has been a great challenge especially against lepidopteran insect pests due to variations in RNAi efficiency. The objective of this study was to screen genes of chymotrypsins (SeCHYs) essenti...
